i want to kiss whoever invented tea

yes, i know i didn't post on fabulous friday. but, to be honest, my friday wasn't that fabulous.
work was beyond sucky, i had to be a waitress and by the end of the day i wanted to throw every tray of food i carried into the laps of the unsuspecting customers.
but lets not dwell.
today has been marvellous, so i've been celebrating with lots of tea.
i hope all you lovely people are having a fantastically lovely day?
go on, have a cuppa on me :)

wonderful wednesdays presents...

get your veg on pizza

ingredients (makes a medium size pizza)

for the dough...
(i will just say that this particular recipe makes a rather 'pastry-like' dough, but i found it just as yummy! it's just that little bit more crumbly, but if you'd rather the more traditional dough base then just don't add the vegan butter.)

preheat the oven to 200c
10oz self raising flour.
pinch of salt
dash (or as much as you wish!) of mixed herbs and oregano
2oz vegan butter
6 tablespoons of olive oil
enough water to make 'dough-like' mixture :)

for the topping...
well, i mean you can use whatever takes your fancy! my little suggestion is...
red pesto
mushrooms
red onion
tomatoes
green pepper
with salt and pepper and oregano to season :)

for the sides...
about 2 sweet potatoes will do for wedges for two people, however i'll let you be the judge of that as has anybody else noticed how much sweet potatoes vary in size?!
olive oil
mixed herbs
salt and pepper
a beautiful selection of salad leaves
sun dried tomatoes, olives and humous (all optional of course, and can be substituted for anything else you might like to nibble on!)

righty ho, here we go!
1) sift the flour into a lovely big baking bowl, then stir in the salt and herbs. then add the butter, and either mix it in with a spoon or rub it in with your fingers.
so it should then looks like this...

2) now add the oil and stir it in, then add enough water (put a few tablespoons in at a time) so that it comes together to form a ball. it shouldn't be too sticky, you should be able to pick it up in your hands without getting attacked by the stickiness. if needed add more flour.

3) now simply wrap it up in cling film and pop it in your fridge and he'll take care of it for 20 minutes.

4) now, whilst the dough is chilling, chop up the potatoes, no need to peel them, just give them a scrub and they'll be even tastier with the skins left on :)

5) now place them into a baking dish, coat them in olive oil and herbs and salt and pepper. then pop them into the oven. (check on them every so often whilst the pizza's cooking.)

6) now, if you're quick, you can also chop up all your toppings before the dough jumps out of the fridge.

7) grab your dough, flour a large surface and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough into a round shape about half an inch thick.

8) cover the top with olive oil and then spread the red pesto thickly all over.

9) now go ahead and add the rest of the toppings!

10) now throw on a dash or two of oregano and salt and pepper and pop it into the oven for about 30 minutes, or until the edges are brown and the base is cooked.
the wedges should be cooked around the same time, but do keep checking just in case!
when cooked, remove sweet wedges and pizza from oven and serve with salad leaves, olives, sun dried tomatoes, and avocado!

happy eating! x

fly away birdie

i spent yesterday and today restoring this delightful little side table/sewing box. it's such a sweetie and will be on ebay soonly.

before...

after...

when the lid is closed it can be used as a normal coffee table, but then boom! open it up to find a compartment for all things you need to sew. i have altered the underside of the lid so it can be used as a giant pin cushion, so no pretty little pins get lost, and you can't really see it that well, but into the cushion part i've sewn the silhouette of a bird.
inside the little drawer they is a metal bar that is used for keeping all your cotton reels on, so they stay all neat and untangled.

fabulous fridays presents...

Hay On Wye
(a day late, sorry!)

friday really was rather fabulous, i spent a lovely day in sweet little Hay On Wye with my mother and the boyf. such a beauty of a town, if you've never been to Hay, i recommend it highly, it's tiny but is overflowing with secondhand bookshops. the bookshops themselves are amazing, the buildings are like rabbit warrens, i think you'd be able to find Narnia if you wandered far enough. the books spill over every surface and are piled high in every corner. so many stories collected over time and hidden away, only to be discovered and read all curled up on one of the wobbly wooden chairs placed by tiny windows overlooking winding streets.

view driving into Hay
this little shop is called 'murder and mayhem' and only sells books on this topic
my mother :)
oooooh i was just so excited as i peered into the shops
all this reading sure does make you hungry...what better to soothe that hunger than homemade tai sweet potato soup, crusty bread and blackcurrant and vanilla tea
...and then back to the books! come have a look...
yep, that's me with my nose in a Bob Dylan autobiography
we walked past this secondhand shop and i just had to take a picture of this strange beast...a stuffed cat with angel wings. i felt that it was both weirdly beautiful and disgusting all at the same time.

so then we found a gorgeous jigsaw puzzle and teddybear shop...

then once again...we were hungry. theres a lovely little cafe that does vegan food so i was a happy little bunny :) the cafe is beautiful, full of mismatched chairs and a log fire.

just had to share this amazing raw vegan chocolate with you, i'm not usually a fan of raw chocolate, but this stuff was rather lovely :)

on the way back there was just enough time to pop into the sweet shop, i just can't resist the smell of sugary goodness, especially when there's a sun setting all pink in the sky.
rhubarb and custard :)
me looking mighty happy after a wonderful day!

hope you all had a fabulous friday! x
